1935 Riley Kestrel Special Reg Date: 30/11/1935Engine: Original 1056cc Twin Cam 9HPRiley Kestrel Special. This Riley started life as a Kestrel 4 door saloon and was subject to a ground up nut and bolt restoration and conversion in 2013, by the current owner in to the 2 seater you see today. The body was crafted in aluminium by Brooklands Bodycraft of Oxford is a work of art and even has the original bonnet tops grafted on to the body, the dash, rear bulkhead and floor are done in marine ply so extremely weather resistant!.

The special is finished in Commodore blue done to high standard with the bonnet, Side panels and wheel arches finished in polished aluminium. The interior is in the true race car style with bare aluminium floors and centrally mounted dash clocks. The seats are new and finished in brown leather with the side over riders finished in the same. The Original 1056cc Twin Cam engine is superb and has received a sympathetic rebuild having very little wear and only needing the big end bearings recoated in white metal. It is fitted with a single SU carburettor and has side exit exhaust manifold mated to a rear exit exhaust system which gives the Riley a rather raucous exhaust note which certainly turns heads!.

The 4 speed pre selector gearbox has been professionally rebuilt by renowned vintage gearbox specialists G Whitehouse Autos of Halesowen at great cost, and once mastered is a delight to use, Giving the Riley a relaxed driving experience. The braking system has been fully rebuilt having new rods and cables and new shoes all round. The drums were in very condition only requiring a light skim to bring them back to tip top condition. The Riley’s wheels have been subject to a full refurb having had most of the spokes replaced and set so they run true. They have then been powder coated to give them a resilient, weather proof finish and fitted with brand new Dunlop period tyres.

The chassis is excellent having been converted to grease nipples on the suspension pivots rather than the old “oiler” system, and is in its standard guise and is fitted to its original leaf springs which have been refurbished and painted and has been fully re-bushed. The electrical system has been fully modernised having been converted from a dynamo to the more reliable alternator. It has received a full rewire and upgraded to the more modern blade type fuse box. This Riley is a credit to its owner and has been lovingly restored to very high standard. It really has to be seen to fully appreciate it!
